Gum Care in Kansas City
It’s important to take care of your gums. At Kansas City Kansas Dental Professionals, we take a holistic approach to your gum and dental care. Gum disease can affect more than your mouth, such as increasing your risk for developing pneumonia or cardiovascular disease. Bleeding gums are often a sign of gum disease and possibly diabetes or heart problems. Your dental professional will go over this with you at your appointment.
Comprehensive care for your gums.
If your gums bleed when you brush, make an appointment with us here at Kansas City Kansas Dental Professionals. We offer comprehensive gum care. During your first visit, if there are signs of gum disease, we may recommend a deeper cleaning that will help you avoid tooth loss. Initially, our hygienists will remove all of the excess plaque and deposits above and below the gum-line. This will smooth the surfaces of your teeth and roots to prevent bacteria from adhering to the root surfaces. We will finish with an antibiotic mouth rinse to control infection and encourage healing. Generally, this is done over the course of two appointments. We will follow up with your care after 6 weeks to measure your progress and discuss any further treatment options. After this initial deep cleaning (called scaling and root planing, or SRP), you will have regular cleanings with our office every 3 or 4 months to maintain and manage your gum and teeth health. After your deep cleaning, we will also be able to more accurately diagnose any restorative work such as fillings, root canals, or crowns.
